Chateaufort

Chateaufort Place Co-Op in Detroit is a true treasure in the City . These co-ops are located in the Lafayette Park Historic District and are classic Mid Century Modern Ranch style architecture. There are 60 units in this development - and each is fitted with floor to ceiling glass, galley style kitchens, full basements, and private fenced dedicated yards. Many of the occupants have created outdoor oasis areas in their units to create more living space in 3 seasons of the year.

There are two different layouts in Chateaufort Place - both of which include a galley kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The development is a short walk to Eastern Market, the Riverfront, The Dequindre Cut, and all of the activities that downtown Detroit has to offer.

Owners in the development are Shareholders of the entire development with right to occupy one of the units - rather than a condo in which title is held by the. individual owner. The final report from the City of Detroit in establishing the historic district states: "Built on the site of the former Black Bottom community (named for its rich, loamy black soil), Lafayette Park was the outcome of a city plan to counter the flight of middle–and upper–income families to the suburbs by creating a community that would attract people of diverse backgrounds. Ironically, this area previously served a diverse community. Beginning in the 1880s through the 1900s the district served as a “port of entry and stopping off place for much of the city’s foreign born.”
